Membership Overview
CEMI Membership is available in two categories: Innovator (R&D provider) and Corporate Sponsor (R&D supporter).
CEMI's mandate is to accelerate the development of mining research excellence, identify research topics of strategic interest to industry, manage large-scale collaborative projects, and connect corporate sponsors with a network of research and technology experts. CEMI facilitates step-change research to sustain mines and mining, with an emphasis on underground hard rock mining.
Supported projects fall within CEMI's areas of focus:
- Exploration
- Integrated Mine Planning and Engineering
- Deep Mining
- Environment and Sustainability
- Enabling Technologies
Projects are funded by CEMI seed contributions, Corporate Sponsors and/or government grants, and range in value from $20 000 to $1,000,000.
Team Approach
CEMI supports early innovation by creating a team of experts from among the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. This team approach not only divests investor risk, but ensures that critical knowledge is shared, and provides corporate sponsors with streamlined access to human resources from around the globe.
CEMI's staff has a unique composition of individuals from industry and academia, so we understand the diverse needs of the mining industry. Therefore our approach is:

Global market based: meet the needs of local economies and global companies
In order to be relevant to our stakeholders, care has been taken to ensure CEMI's Board of Directors and Committees include sufficient industry representation. In our operational model, Corporate Sponsors receive targeted resources for the challenges they deem as high priority.
